There are plenty of different types of insurance for different holidays and each type provides cover for a range of possible problems. Some of the various things that travel insurance tends to cover are:

  • Travel InsuranceCancellation – This is in case your holiday is cancelled and dependant on the level of cover you bought originally you could gain back the cost of your entire holiday or at least part of the cost. This is not that common occurrence but it helpful in a situation where you have spent a lot of money on a holiday and then for unforeseen circumstances it has to be cancelled by the travel company, such as storms that would prevent the planes from flying for a period of time.
  • Curtailment – This is not offered on many insurance policies but is if you pay a little more usually. It basically means that if you pay for your holiday and after you have paid for it the price goes down you can claim back the difference in price. This usually happens in the case where you book a holiday a long time in advance and during that time the travel company decide to do an offer on the destination.
  • Delayed departure – If a flight is delayed and you wish to wait at the airport for the plane to leave then you will be able to stay in hotel accommodation if the delay is over 24 hours. This is helpful for those that can not get to and from the airport easily and so need to stay in the area around the airport if they are to catch the flight when it is announced to be leaving.
  • Travel InsuranceMedical expenses – This is extremely helpful because of the fact medical care in foreign countries is very rarely free. This is most helpful on holidays such as skiing and snowboarding because accidents are a common occurrence and especially if the accident is a bad one and you require a great amount of medical care it could cost you a large amount. So knowing your medical bills are covered for will take a great deal of stress off you while you are ill.
  • Delayed baggage – This is less common through the whole year apart from holiday times such as Christmas for example. It basically means if your luggage is delayed in transfer then you can have essential items replaced before your baggage is delivered to you.
