There are plenty of different types of insurance for different holidays and each type provides cover for a range of possible problems. Some of the various things that travel insurance tends to cover are:
Holiday Cancellation Insurance – This basically means your holiday is covered for cancellation of any reason depending on your level of cover and the terms and conditions of your provider, if you have the highest cover it means you can claim back the full cost of your holiday. This is not that common occurrence but it helpful in a situation where you have spent a lot of money on a holiday and then for unforeseen circumstances it has to be cancelled by the travel company, such as storms that would prevent the planes from flying for a period of time.- Curtailment insurance– This is not generally offered by many insurance providers but basically means you can claim back the difference if the holiday drops in price after you have paid. This is more often when you have booked your holiday way in advance that the holiday provider may offer a discount during that time. This is only really useful if the amount the holiday has been reduced by is substantial because you'll have to pay the excess first so if it was only reduced by a low amount you could end up paying more than you're claiming back.
- Delayed departure compensation – If a flight is delayed and you wish to wait at the airport for the plane to leave then you will be able to stay in hotel accommodation if the delay is over 24 hours. This is helpful for those that can not get to and from the airport easily and so need to stay in the area around the airport if they are to catch the flight when it is announced to be leaving.
Making sure medical expenses are covered on holiday – This is extremely helpful because of the fact medical care in foreign countries is very rarely free. This is most helpful on holidays such as skiing and snowboarding because accidents are a common occurrence and especially if the accident is a bad one and you require a great amount of medical care it could cost you a large amount. So knowing your medical bills are covered for will take a great deal of stress off you while you are ill.- Delayed baggage arrival – This is less common through the whole year apart from holiday times such as Christmas for example. This cover basically means you can receive an amount to replace essential items before your baggage is returned to you.
