Skiing and snowboarding holidays are becoming increasingly popular with a wider group of people and the variety of services available in the different resorts is increasing with this demand. It is not just the services available in the hotels that has improved over the years but also up on the slopes as well below are some of the things on offer in different ski and snowboard resorts and equipment you will need:
Heli-skiing – this is where you are taken up the mountain in a helicopter to a certain point up the mountain and instead of paying for a ski lift you would pay for the distance you travel on the mountain usually worked out on a 1000 metre basis. It is different to skiing or boarding on a ski resort because the snow is not groomed like on a ski resort it is more powdery than ski resort snow and feels completely different to ski or board in.
Most people think you have to be an advanced skier or boarder to go up the mountain heli-skiing/boarding but that isn’t true you only need to be able to handle the blue or intermediate slopes on a ski resort to be able to go heli-skiing/boarding. There are certain things you will either have to make sure you take with you or you will be given by your guide whilst you are up there these are snow shovels and avalanche transceivers.- Day trips – these are things like dog sledging, snowmobiles and ice fishing each resorts has a variety of services for example you may be able to go ice fishing and dog sledging in one resort but not be able to go ice climbing. So this means if there is an activity that you really want to do whilst on holiday it may be worth checking out how near the facilities for you to do that are to where your staying.
No matter if your skiing or snowboarding the equipment you will need to take with you is pretty much on a par. You will need ski/snow boots, thick snowboarding/ski pants you may also need the micro fleece under leggings although this will depend on the temperatures of the resort you are staying at, thick snowboarding/ski jacket to accompany this you may want to consider a micro fleece for underneath the reason for it being micro fleece and not thick fleece is because micro fleece is breathable but also retains heat well, thick socks to protect your feet, ski gloves you want to make sure you have enough movement in the gloves for you to use your hands properly. Dependant on the area you are and how sunny it is you may also need sun screen for your face and lips.
